Typography Animals

Man, I'm not good at remembering to post stuff here. >.< Anyways, we had to make two animals, using only the letters of the animals' names, and all of the letters at least once. It was actually kinda fun! I did a cheetah and a manatee. Clicking links to high-res at Flickr account.

I've done a couple projects so far. The first one had to be mostly made of coils, had to be process evident, be at least 12'' tall/wide/both, and have some sort of design. I'm really sad that I didn't take a pic *right* after I finished it because it fell apart. There were more wormy things on it and around it and it looked way cooler. But I didn't learn how to keep stuff together really well until *after* the first project. Heh. Oh and it fell apart even further, but fortunately not until after I was given an A. :]

The second one only had one requirement; that there be at least 5 separate slabs, not matter what size, stuck together. There are at least 8, plus the other stuff I did to make it look more like a flower.

There's actually a story behind this round of photos:

The nerve of some people is beyond me. It snowed for the second time here in Rexburg on Saturday night, and so my old roomies and I decided to have some fun and build a snowman. We got three good-sized balls all ready, but then Lizze decided we should make it a 4-layered snowman, so we added a fourth to the top. As we were deciding what else to do with it, she cocked her head to the side and said "you know, it looks just like the Pillsbury Doughboy." We all looked at it again, and sure enough, it did! So, we proceeded to give him arms, a face, and a belly button, and we took some pics of our new friend. No sooner had we gotten an awesome group pic, when this random guy, way too old to be a freshman, comes running at it yelling "stop, police!" We all giggled and made "oh noes!" faces, thinking he was just messing with us. But no. He kept right on running, tackled the Doughboy, and then kept going, leaving us to stand looking at the wreckage in shock. Not only that, but they drove by again, yelling "hah! Who got the last laugh?!" What an immature jerk. We rebuilt the Doughboy, but it wasn't nearly as good as the first, as you can see. Pics are in chronological order, left to right, top to bottom.

Most of the time, the pictures I take are purely for making memories, and not necessarily for artistic flavor. For instance, I like to take pictures from inside the car (or plane) while on trips. I find it interesting that some of them turn out very nicely, while others that I take on purpose don't. Here are some pics I've taken that I like. flyers for the Relief Society

I'm the publicity leader for my LDS ward's Relief Society, so I'm in charge of keeping up with knowing when activities are and making flyers when asked to and stuff like that. I've only been asked to make two so far, but I take my job seriously, so I work in Adobe Illustrator, which is actually not hard at all, and is very fun. To save on expenses, I make one 4.25"x5.5" and then put 4 on a page. Pretty simple.

Alright, so upon Frank's suggestion, I have created a blog specifically to archive and share my art, photography, design, and all-around artistic creativity with the world. Or, at least with those who stumble upon this blog. I'll get to putting up my stuff soon. Stay tuned!
